DPW Construction Updates

The Department of Public Works is currently performing construction at various locations across the city. The current focus are as follows:

Bourbon Street Bollard Assessment & Replacement Project
2024 French Quarter (FQ) Right of Way Project
2024 Central Business District (CBD) Right of Way Project
Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation
Downman Road / Lincoln Beach Project
Sidewalk Repairs

Bourbon Street Bollard Assessment & Replacement Project

Scope: Replacing old bollards with new removable stainless-steel bollards and sidewalk repairs at various locations on Bourbon Street between Canal and St. Ann

Status: The project is approximately 90% complete. This week, crews have been working at the following locations:

100 block of Bourbon – Block closed for bollard placement.
300 block of Bourbon – Closed at Bienville.
600 block of Bourbon – Closed at St. Peter.
700 block of Bourbon – Closed at Orleans.
750 block of Bourbon – Construction ongoing at Orleans (lakeside) and both sides of St. Ann.

Crews will continue working on MLK Day (Monday, 1/20). Please note that closures and work areas may shift next week.

2024 FQ Right of Way Project

Scope: Waterline installation, drainage upgrades, pavement, and sidewalk restoration

Scope: Roadway resurfacing, re-striping, sidewalk repairs, installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps, and driveway apron repairs

Locations:

Gov. Nicholls Street: 600 – 1000 blocks
Ursulines Avenue: 500 – 1000 blocks
St. Philip Street: 600 – 1000 blocks
St. Ann Street: 600, 900 – 1000 blocks
St. Louis Street: 1100 block
Madison Street: 600 block
St. Peter Street: 700-1000 block
Conti Street: 500 – 600 / 900 – 1100 blocks
Clinton Street: 200 block
Chartres Street: 100 – 600 / 800 – 1300 blocks
Frenchmen Street: 400 – 600 blocks
Burgundy Street: 2200 – 2500 blocks
Decatur Street: 2200 – 2500 blocks

This week, crews are wrapping up work with milling in the 1100–1300 blocks of Chartres and the 500 block of Ursulines. Milling is also taking place on Bienville (N. Front to N. Rampart) and Dumaine (Chartres to N. Rampart).

Paving operations are underway in the 2200–2500 blocks of Burgundy, while sidewalk replacements continue in the 1000 blocks of St. Peter and St. Ann. Sidewalk work in the 200 block of Clinton is expected to be completed this week.

Monument removal on Basin Street began this week and will continue into next week, weather permitting.

Crews will also be working on MLK Day, Monday, 1/20.

2024 CBD Right of Way Project

Maestri Pl. (St. Charles Ave. – Camp St.)
Girod St. (Loyola Ave. – Convention Center Blvd.)
Howard Ave. (Loyola Ave. – Tivoli Circle)
Prieur St. (Perdido St. – Tulane Ave.)
Carondelet St. (Poydras St. – Canal St.)
St. Charles Ave. (Poydras St. – Canal St.)
Broad St. (Howard Ave.- Euphrosine St.)
Johnson St. (Perdido St. – Tulane Ave.)
Rampart St. (Canal St. – Tulane Ave.)
Gaiennie St. (S. Peters St. – Convention Center Blvd.)
John Churchill Chase St. (Annunciation St. – Dead End at Calliope St.)
Poeyfarre St. (Annunciation St. – Magazine St.)
Constance St. (John Churchill Chase St. – Andrew Higgins Blvd.)

Status: Concrete work is complete on Constance, John Churchill Chase, Poeyfarre, and Perdido (sidewalks). Concrete work on Howard is in progress, with a few remaining spots scheduled for completion next week. Milling and paving operations on Constance are still underway.

This week crews began laying asphalt on St. Charles and will continue through next week. Paving on Old Poydras is also ongoing. Next week, paving operations are scheduled for St. Charles, Old Poydras, Girod, Natchez, John Churchill Chase, Gravier, Gaiennie, and Carondelet. Striping on Howard is nearly complete and will wrap up next week.

There is no planned night work next week and no work on MLK Day (1/20). Please note that weather conditions may impact the schedule.

Hotel Collapse Site Rehabilitation

Scope: Waterline installation, drainage upgrades, pavement, and sidewalk restoration

Status:

N. Rampart Street: Street restoration is ongoing, with one lane currently open to traffic. This week, crews repaired a water leak and fixed a conduit. Weather permitting, crews will begin laying asphalt next week.

Iberville Street: One side of the street has been paved. Crews are continuing concrete sidewalk and paving repairs and working on drain point repairs this week. Pavement restoration and brick sidewalk repairs will follow.
Canal Street: This week, crews milled the roadway, and brick sidewalk work began. Next week, brick sidewalk work will continue, and weather permitting, asphalt roadway restoration will begin. Grout repairs on the RTA tracks started this week and will continue for the next two weeks. For details about RTA impacts, visit norta.com.
Burgundy Street: Last week, crews milled the roadway, repaired waterlines, and began asphalt restoration. Next week, the street is scheduled to reopen to traffic.

Weekend work is scheduled for Saturday, 1/18, and Sunday, 1/19. Holiday work is also scheduled for MLK Day, Monday, 1/20.

Downman Road / Lincoln Beach Project

Scope: Road resurfacing, striping, sidewalk repairs, and underground utility updates

Locations:

Downman Road: Chef Menteur Hwy to Hayne Blvd
Lincoln Beach Blvd: Press Dr to France Rd
Providence Place: Press Dr to New York St
Leon C. Simon: Press Dr to Elysian Fields Ave

Status: This week, sidewalk work is ongoing on Downman Road. Leon C. Simon Avenue (Press to Elysian Fields) has been added to the project. Beginning Monday (1/20), crews will start removing and replacing concrete roadway panels on Leon C. Simon (Franklin to Elysian Fields), requiring temporary lane closures. The project also includes sidewalk, ADA ramp, and curb repairs and improvements.

Sidewalk Repairs

Scope: Repairing and upgrading concrete and specialty sidewalks (brick/stone)

Status:

Rampart (Poydras to Canal): Work is completed and crews will finish cleaning up the site next week.
Jackson Square: Crews are resetting broken stones and grouting areas where grout is missing. This work is expected to continue through the end of the month.
